25th Anniversary best-of Unarmed

25th Anniversary best-of Unarmed

Helloween, one of the most eminent melodic metal bands worldwide and – along with the Scorpions and Accept – Germany’s ultimate metal export, got together exactly 25 years ago. A total of eleven headlining world tours took the band all over the globe, and their sensational show at the Monsters Of Rock in Castle Donington in front of more than 100,000 metalheads and spectacular tours alongside Iron Maiden, Dio and Ozzy Osbourne as well as their MTV Headbangers Ball US tour with Anthrax and Exodus remain unforgotten. Helloween have sold more than five million records and garnered 14 gold and 6 platinum awards globally, receiving two gold records in Germany only. Thus: no exaggeration to say that without them, many contemporary acts such as Edguy, Sonata Arctica and Blind Guardian etc. would not be around in their current form. For 25 years, Helloween have shot their riffs and hooks from the hip and doubtlessly count among the most ingenious international metal acts. At the same time, it’s mainly their fantastic and extremely haunting melodies which their fans love. Now Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Sascha Gerstner (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass) and Daniel Löble (drums) have set out to prove that their great anthems ooze that special Helloween flair even with totally new arrangements: February 1st, 2010 will see the band unleash a stunning best-of album, entitled UNARMED – Best-Of 25th Anniversary, which is set to raise the musical benchmark!

UNARMED – Best-Of 25th Anniversary is Helloween’s ‘thank-you’ to millions of fans old and new and will prove their exceptional position on the international metal scene. Instead of putting together a regular greatest hits compilation featuring their most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, the five band members completely rearranged the greatest melodies they had written in the course of their career to date. The result is an offering which was lavishly produced under the auspices of their tried and tested producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, and recorded with the support of a number of first-rate guest musicians: together with percussion virtuoso Nippy Noya, Fury in the Slaughterhouse accordion player Gero Drnek, as well as German rock icon Peter Maffay’s guitarist Andreas Becker, UNARMED – Best-Of 25th Anniversary features Supercharge’s exceptional saxophonist Albie Donnelly, Hellsongs’s vocalist Harriet Ohlsson, pianist Matthias Ulmer, plus the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra and the choirs of the Gregorian singers!

“People have come to know us for our phat ENGL, Mesa Boogie and Marshall amps; our distorted guitars are our most deadly weapon,” vocalist Andi Deris explains. “This time, however, some listeners will probably find themselves slapping their foreheads when they suddenly, after an unfamiliar beginning, realise which song it is that they have been listening to.” At the same time, Helloween have fully explored the limits of what is possible: the catchy “Eagle Fly Free” for example is a tender ballad, presented as a duet between Deris and Harriet Ohlsson, supported by a wonderful e-bow guitar solo, “A Tale That Wasn’t Right” has turned into a melancholic, touching orchestral version, “If I Could Fly” and “Fallin To Pieces” are presented in a mellow pop guise with lounge music tendencies, and “Dr. Stein” had been transformed into a ska version with an entire horn section.

As a special surprise, Helloween have come up with “The Keeper´s Trilogy” an awesome 17-minute medley of the songs “Halloween”, “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” and “The King For A 1000 Years”, recorded in cooperation with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra and likely to send shivers of delight down the spine of every Helloween fan.

UNARMED – Best-Of 25th Anniversary sees Helloween commemorate their 25th anniversary in their very own way. “We aren’t one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves,” says Weikath. “We wanted to say thank you in a special way to all our fans who have followed us through the past 25 years – to us, this album stands for an official celebration. We had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new ‘outfit’ and with new arrangements. Now we can’t wait to find out how our fans will react.”

Helloween 25th Anniversary“Hello to all Pumpkin Maniacs!

We deeply apologize for the weeks of silence – which were weeks of insecurity for us – about the bands European label situation and the release date of the long awaited Unarmed – Best Of 25th Anniversary album.

Thus we are proud to finally announce that we have teamed up with Sony Music in co-op with SPV, to release our upcoming records!

We also want to use this opportunity to welcome the highly motivated team of Sony Music in the world of Helloween and it’s fans!

Release dates for Unarmed – Best Of 25th Anniversary:

December 16th – Japan & Southeast Asia (JVC/Victor)

Unarmed – Best Of 25th Anniversary is a big ‘thank-you’ to all our fans, old and new all over the world! Instead of putting together a regular greatest hits compilation featuring our most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, we completely rearranged and re-recorded the greatest songs and melodies of our career.

Together with our tried and tested producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, we invited many great musicians to guest on this special record, with the doubtless highlight of having the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra performing “The Keeper’s Trilogy”, a 17 minute medley consisting of the songs “Halloween”, “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” and “The King for A 1000 Years” – goose bumps guaranteed!

Here’s a list of all songs we recorded:

“Dr. Stein”
“Future World”
“If I Could Fly”
“Where The Rain Grows”
“The Keeper’s Trilogy”
“Eagle Fly Free”
“Perfect Gentleman”
“Forever & One”
“I Want Out”
“Falling To Pieces”
“A Tale That Wasn’t Right”

We aren’t one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves, we just want to say ‘thank you’ in our own special way to all of you who have followed us through the past 25 years – to us, this album stands for an official celebration.

It was a big challenge & great experience and we had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new ‘outfit’ and with new arrangements – we hope you like them!

Sincerely yours,

Andi, Michael, Markus, Sascha & Dani.”

Gambling With The Devil

Backed by the impetus of their successful Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy world tour which saw the band perform 93 shows in 34 countries around the globe — impressively documented on the double live DVD Live On 3 Continents — German metallers Helloween are about to release their twelfth studio album, Gambling With The Devil. The new offering is scheduled to arrive at the stores on October 23, 2007 (USA), October 26, 2007 (Germany) and October 29, 2007 (rest of Europe) and will see the five musicians — Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Sascha Gerstner (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass) and Dani Löble (drums) — unleash their full zest and experience. “Some of the numbers were written during the tour. The fans’ positive reactions and the great responses to Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy really inspired us. We were rearing to go,” Andi Deris describes the extremely positive atmosphere among the band members, adding: “It’s been years since I had so much fun composing.”

Under the direction of producer Charlie Bauerfeind, Helloween recorded a total of 16 songs at the Mi Sueno studios in Tenerife. Except for two or three tracks, these new compositions are all included on Gambling With The Devil, among them the impressive intro, featuring “Crack The Riddle”, with Biff Byford (Saxon) as a guest speaker. The focal point of this diverse album is a three-part epos consisting of the chapters “The Bells Of The Seven Hells”, “Falling To Pieces” and “I.M.E.”, which represent the ambiguous album title that thematically covers all the songs. “At the end of the day, life is a gamble with the devil,” Deris explains.

The first single release (download only) will be “As Long As I Fall”, supported by a video clip which will be shot in Munich at the end of August. The cover artwork was designed by Martin Häusler (Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy and Live On 3 Continents) again, and the booklet will include a scratch card puzzle, giving fans a chance to win a lucrative prize: a concert ticket for a show during the band’s upcoming tour of South America, including flight and accommodation. The album will also be released as a limited-edition digipak in a slipcase with a bonus disc, including two unreleased songs, a video and lots of enhanced material.

The “Hellish Rock” tour of Europe is scheduled to start in mid-November 2007, supported by top act Gamma Ray. Apart from a few festival appearances, this will be the first joint tour by Helloween and Gamma Ray. So here’s hoping that Gamma Ray mastermind Kai Hansen, a former Helloween member himself, will join his ex-colleagues in a jam session featuring Helloween classics.

As already rumoured during the last couple of weeks, it is now confirmed that Gamma Ray will team up with Helloween on their upcoming European tour! The tour will kick off mid of November this year, and the line up will be completed by 1-2 additional acts.

Apart from very few festival appearances, this will be the first time ever both bands touring together and bears the possibility of Kai Hansen -Gamma Ray leader and ex- Helloween member- entering the stage to jam one or the other classic Helloween-song with his former band mates!

“This is going to be a historical event for all Helloween fans, we are looking forward to have Kai and his band on our tour with us” states Helloween guitarist Michael Weikath.

It is also planned –but not confirmed- to expand this promising package to the territories of South East Asia, North and South America.

Dani Löble has re-entered Andi Deris´ Mi Sueno Studios on Tenerife to start the second part of his recordings for the forthcoming studio album. The working title of the band’s 12th studio record is Gambling With The Devil which release is once again scheduled on Halloween the 31st of October. The world tour will start mid of November in Europe, to be followed by South East Asia, North and South America in the first half of 2008 – first dates will be released soon!

Hello ween!

helloween

Welcome to my tribute page for Helloween, the pioneer of power metal musics. Here, you’ll find the almost real story of the band. This will be the other side of Helloween. As you’ve read the common history of the band, I’ll try to disclose the ‘dark side’ or the other side of the band that might be never revealed on surface because it would insult the band members or ex-band members. You may disagree, but all of them taken from the interviews done by them.
